Welcome

Welcome to Medical Education at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
As Director of Medical Education (DME), I am proud to support a learning environment in which doctors and students can develop their knowledge, skills and confidence while delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality patient care.
At Barnsley, we are committed to providing excellent education and training throughout every stage of a medical career. We work closely with all students (medical, nursing, allied health professional), resident doctors, locally employed doctors, educators, clinical teams and our regional education partners including Sheffield University to ensure that learning is relevant, supportive and firmly embedded within everyday clinical practice.
Our Medical Education team provides a wide range of teaching, simulation, clinical skills training, educational supervision and professional development opportunities. We aim to create an inclusive and respectful culture in which learners feel valued, well supported and able to raise concerns, seek advice and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our services.
We recognise that education is fundamental to patient safety, staff wellbeing and the future of healthcare. Our ambition is to continue strengthening Barnsley’s reputation as an excellent place to learn, teach and work, while developing our wider aspirations as a Teaching Hospital.
I hope that you find the information and resources on this website useful. Whether you are joining Barnsley for a undergraduate placement, undertaking postgraduate training, working as a locally employed doctor or contributing as an educator, we look forward to welcoming and supporting you.
