We currently have 9 PAs covering the Acute Medical Unit 7 days a week. In Acute Medicine the PAs day-to-day role has plenty of variety, and includes attending consultant led ward round and clerking patients with the support of the on-call team. The Acute Medicine PAs also work on Short Stay Unit, where they help to quickly treat and discharge patients appropriately. They also work in the same Day Emergency Care Clinic, where they assess patients with consultant supervision and help avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Due to the nature of Acute Medicine, some of our PAs have been able to develop advanced clinical skills.
