What teaching do we provide?
Our Medicines Optimisation Teaching sessions are tailored specifically for different stages of medical students and resident doctors. Each session is designed to match the level of knowledge and experience of the learners, ensuring that the content is relevant to where you are in your work or studies. Please see below for the teaching we provide through training.
Our sessions whilst aimed at medical prescribers can be attended by physicians’ associates, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and nurses. If you’d like to attend but haven’t been invited, please contact us in advance, as we need to ensure we have the right room size and enough resources for the group. We’re here to support your learning journey in medicines optimisation!

PSA Exam Support for Phase 4 Students
If you’re a Phase 4 student preparing for your Prescribing Safety Assessment (PSA), we’re here to help! We offer 1:1 support session’s where you can book an appointment to go over key prescribing concepts, clarify any questions, and build confidence in your skills. These personalized sessions are designed to address your specific needs and help you feel fully prepared for the exam. Don’t hesitate to book your 1:1 appointment and get the support you need to succeed in your PSA!
1:1 Prescribing Support for Resident Doctors
We offer 1:1 support session’s for resident doctors who may need to brush up on specific areas of prescribing. You can self-refer to these sessions if you’d like additional guidance or support. If you have concerns about a prescriber or a prescribing incident, you can also refer them for a review, and we’ll provide tailored prescribing support sessions as needed.
Please note, this process is not a replacement for reporting through DATIX. If a prescribing incident has occurred, ensure a DATIX is completed, and then you can also refer the prescriber to us for further support.
Prescribing Support for Pharmacists on Independent Prescribing Courses
For pharmacists completing their independent prescribing course, we offer dedicated prescribing time and sessions through our placements with the medical education team. Our educational pharmacist, who is also a prescribing pharmacist, will provide guidance and mentorship. Time spent with them can count towards your required clinical hours, giving you valuable hands-on experience. This is a great opportunity to build your prescribing skills and gain practical knowledge in a supportive environment.
Educational Medicines Posters
We also provide educational medicines posters, designed either as part of hospital guidance or for medicines optimisation within the hospital. These informative posters are created by our educational pharmacist and are used throughout our hospital to enhance safe and effective prescribing practices.
