Foundation
The Foundation Team supports Doctors progressing through the 2 year Foundation Training Programme. The team works closely with the Yorkshire and the Humber Foundation School and local hospital trusts to ensure that foundation training is aligned and in accordance with national guidance. Foundation year 1 and year 2 doctors benefit from a comprehensive induction, a wide range of clinical placements across diverse specialities and valuable teachings such as simulation training, a once-monthly full day of teaching, Bridging The Gap Days and Taster Days.
Barnsley offers the Specialised Foundation Programme, providing Medical Education Fellows with an opportunity to explore interests in academic medicine, where they gain experience in generic teaching skills, develop research and enhance their leadership skills. The four month placement includes working within the Medical Education department, focusing on Undergraduate and Postgraduate education and dE1E5EAchniques, essential for modern doctors.
The trained team focus on regular contact with all Foundation Doctors and are able to offer tailored guidance and individual development plans if needed with the support of the Educational and Clinical Supervisors. Foundation Doctors have access to wellbeing and pastoral services, career’s advice and a safe and supportive environment to progress in their training.
